Disability insurance companies like UNUM, Prudential, The Hartford, The Standard, Aetna, and Cigna who saw that they could make a lot of money by selling disability insurance to young, healthy individuals. however, this turned into a nightmare for insurance carriers when claims began to increase, while interest rates and investment returns began to drop. Since the insurance companies couldn’t control interest rates and their policy holders began to get older and file claims. They did the only thing they could control, refuse to pay claims.
The results of the “cost control” measures mean that thousands of individuals who have paid their disability premiums for years have been left in financial ruin because of their own insurance companies broken promises.
