In this video Marc Whitehead, a Board Certified Disability Attorney, explains how the new Social Security fees may be affect your Social Security Disability.
As a Social Security Disability Attorney, I understand completely that the Social Security Administration isn’t overflowing with money. Some thing big has to change if Social Security is going to be around for future generations, but their new policy of charging fees to perform simple actions seems like the wrong way to go.
We already pay Social Security for every single pay check. Why should be charged again for minor services? That’s what most people are probably going to think, and it’s hard to argue with that opinion.
A few of the things that the Social Security has decided to charge for, include:
Medical Requests from third parties
Copying folders
Forwarding letters
Third Party manual Social Security Number Verification
W2 and W3 requests
Right no they say that no one will be charged for anything directly related to the administration of the Social Security program and that the fees won’t apply for any services involving an SSA case, but what does that really mean?
For the time being people wont be charged for things like:
Disability reviews
Applications being processed
Requests for Social Security Numbers
While this is good, who’s to say that things won’t change in the future when the program, again, is in the need for money. Ultimately, what it means for you is that dealing with the Social Security Office just got more complicated, especially when you are trying to file a claim. Now, more then ever it is important to have an experienced Social Security Attorney on your side.
