For many Veterans, navigating the disability claims process can feel overwhelming and slow. Fortunately, the Social Security Administration (SSA) recognizes the sacrifices of our nation’s servicemembers and offers expedited processing for certain disability claims. This program can help Veterans get faster access to the benefits they need and deserve.

Who Qualifies for Expedited Processing?
Not every Veteran automatically receives expedited treatment, but you may qualify if you meet one of these criteria:
- 100% Permanent and Total (P&T) VA Disability Rating
Veterans with a P&T rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs are eligible for faster handling of their Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) applications. - Wounded Warriors
Active duty servicemembers and Veterans who became disabled while on active duty after October 1, 2001, may qualify under the SSA’s Wounded Warriors program. This applies regardless of where the disability occurred—whether in combat, training, or elsewhere.

How Expedited Processing Works
When the SSA receives your application and verifies your status, your claim is placed into a priority track. While expedited claims are not “instant approvals,” they are reviewed much faster than standard applications. This can save you months of waiting during a time when financial stability is critical.
What Veterans Should Do
If you’re a Veteran applying for SSDI, make sure to:
- Clearly indicate your VA rating or active duty status on your application.
- Provide copies of your VA decision letter or military medical records.
- Work with an attorney experienced in both VA and Social Security claims to avoid delays or errors.
Why This Matters for You and Your Family
For Veterans who already have VA benefits, Social Security disability benefits can provide an additional layer of financial protection. Many families rely on both systems to cover living expenses, health care costs, and long-term needs. Expedited processing helps ensure that Veterans don’t have to wait unnecessarily to access support they’ve earned.
At Marc Whitehead & Associates, we are proud to serve Veterans and their families. If you or someone you know is a Veteran struggling with a disability claim—whether through the VA, Social Security, or private insurance—we are here to help guide you through the process.
