The 2026 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) pay chart rates reflect a 2.8% cost-of-living (COLA) adjustment. Payments are based on the 2025 VA Disability payment rates with a 2.8% increase to help ensure that benefits keep pace with inflation.
If you’re unsure about what the information included in 2026’s VA Disability pay chart rates means, help is available. A Veterans Affairs Disability benefits claims lawyer can explain these rates specific to your situation.
For veterans who believe they may be entitled to a higher VA Disability rating based on their condition or have had a Veterans Disability benefits request denied, your attorney may help you appeal the original decision against you.
How Are the VA’s Disability Rates Determined?
A veteran’s disability rating and the number of dependents are used to determine the VA Disability rates for conditions. Outside of these things, the 2.8% COLA adjustment affects the 2026 VA Disability pay charts.
VA Disability ratings are percentages (0-100%) assigned to veterans based on the severity of their service–related conditions. The VA will consider how a veteran’s disability impacts their everyday life and earning capacity based on medical evidence and criteria outlined in its rating schedule. From here, the VA will give a veteran a rating that applies to their condition.
Meanwhile, the VA will account for a veteran’s dependents to calculate this individual’s monthly payments. If you’re a veteran who has a spouse, children, or parents that you support, you may receive higher monthly payments than you would if you were requesting VA Disability benefits only for yourself.
