Marla Briscoe, a native Houstonian, joined Marc Whitehead & Associates in June 2024 as the Managing Attorney of Mass Torts. She represents clients who have been injured by dangerous medications, defective medical devices, and exposure to toxic substances. She goes up against big pharma, large corporations and even the U.S. government on behalf of her clients. She is honored to have represented thousands of injured people in her career as a plaintiffs’ mass tort attorney.
Marla attended The University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. She then attended the University of Houston Law Center and received her law degree (J.D.) in 1990. During law school, she was an associate editor for the Houston Law Review and interned for Federal District Judge David Hittner. In 1990, Marla was admitted to the State Bar of Texas and started her career as Briefing Attorney to Justice Davie Wilson at the First Court of Appeals. Marla went on to work at the litigation firm Filteau Sullivan & Georgantas, and transitioned to Hewlett Packard/Compaq Computer in 1999, where she managed global case investigations and litigation of cases involving fraud, breach of contract, misrepresentation, and criminal and civil conspiracy. During her time in this role, she and her team recovered tens of millions of dollars from fraudsters and criminals on behalf of the companies and their shareholders.
In 2010, Marla entered the mass tort space as the director of operations of the law firm of Matthews & Associates. It was there that Marla became well versed in mass tort litigation, managing all functional aspects of the national mass tort litigation firm, while also serving as litigation counsel for specific mass tort case dockets.
Marla’s personal interests include mentoring rising stars though work programs and personal relationships. She most recently volunteered with the Emerge Mentorship Program in Houston. The program connects Emerge students to leading Houston-area professionals and community volunteers to help students in their personal journey to achieve their college and career goals. Marla also volunteers with Galveston Bay Foundation to support fund raising efforts benefitting preservation and positive changes in Galveston Bay. She is an avid traveler and has visited more than 25 countries all over the globe. She enjoys a myriad of outdoor interests, including bay and beach activities, hiking, and pickle ball. Her big passions include Pilates, mahjong, cooking, wine tasting, art collecting, reading, and spending quality time with her daughter, son, husband and beloved family dog, Dutch.
