Was Your Claim for Hodgkin’s Disease Disability Benefits Denied?
Hodgkin’s disease belongs to a class of cancers known as lymphomas, and is also referred to as Hodgkin lymphoma. Lymphoma is a cancer that develops in the lymph nodes, and in advanced stages invades the spleen, liver, bone marrow and lungs.
Hodgkin’s disease is one of the two main types of cancers of the lymphatic system. The other main type is non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is more common.

About Hodgkin Lymphoma and Disability
The lymphatic system produces white blood cells called lymphocytes. Lymphoma develops when these cells begin to multiply uncontrollably. They can spread to other lymph nodes and invade the bloodstream, which channels them to other places, like the liver, lungs or bones.
People living with Hodgkin’s disease disability suffer from symptoms of swelling of lymph nodes, constant fatigue, unexplained weight loss, itching, coughing, chest pain, difficulty breathing, fever and chills, and night sweats.
Treatment includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and stem cell transplant. Therapy can cause severe complications and additional disorders, including secondary cancers such as leukemia, heart disease, infertility, lung problems, and thyroid disorders.
Denials of Hodgkin’s Disease Disability Benefits by LTD Insurance Companies
People assume that, if they become disabled, their long term disability insurance provider will fulfill their commitment and pay what they should. Regrettably, this is not always the case. It has become a common occurrence for insurance companies to avoid paying valid claims or try to pay less than a claim is worth.
Marc Whitehead & Associates is a team of dedicated disability insurance lawyers. We have years of experience successfully standing up for our clients’ rights in their fight against insurance providers. We are familiar with the “reasons” many legitimate claims are denied.
Tactics that insurance companies routinely use to unfairly deny claims for Hodgkin’s disease disability and other cancers are diverse, for example they may claim that you
- Failed to provide objective evidence
- Did not meet eligibility requirements
- Did not meet the definition of disability
- Had a pre-existing condition
- Can still work at a job
Many times, these allegations are false.
Dealing with a long-term disability claim denial on your own can be overwhelming. The insurance companies want you to give up. But you can fight back with confidence with an experienced and respected disability law firm representing you.

Social Security Claims for Hodgkin Disease Disability
Applicants diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease may find that Social Security has denied their claim. In fact, most claims for social security disability benefits are initially denied. This can happen even to the strongest claims. Having legal representation on a denied claim is critical and can make the difference between winning and losing much needed compensation.
The Social Security Administration follows the criteria for disability evaluation published in the Social Security Listing of Impairments. Hodgkin’s disease is listed under Malignant Neoplastic Diseases listing 13.05 Lymphoma.
Other than Mantle Cell Lymphoma (which qualifies you for a compassionate allowance), the SSA separates lymphoma into three types for their assessment of disability benefits:
- Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
- Hodgkin lymphoma
- Bone marrow or stem cell transplantation.
With Hodgkin’s lymphoma, you qualify for Social Security disability benefits if you do not have total remission, or if the disease recurs inside of one year of total remission. If you have had bone marrow or stem cell transplantation, you qualify for at least one year of disability, and SSA will reconsider your disability at the one-year mark.
If your Hodgkin’s disease disability does not meet or equal a listing, you can still qualify for disability if you are unable to function in the workplace. Many Social Security Disability claims are approved under these guidelines. Social Security will also consider the effects of your therapy.
Do not give up. If you have been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease and need help getting Social Security Disability benefits, do not hesitate to contact attorneys who are Board Certified in Social Security Disability Law.

Veterans Compensation for Hodgkin’s Disease Disability
Disabled veterans are forced to endure endless regulations and obstacles when trying to get the disability benefits they deserve. This is unacceptable. If your VA disability claim for Hodgkin’s disease was for any reason denied or delayed, or if you are dissatisfied with your rating, please request a free consultation with Marc Whitehead.
The Department of Veterans Affairs follows their VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities when determining the level of a veteran’s service-connected disability. Hodgkin’s disease is listed under The Hemic and Lymphatic Systems.
Hodgkin’s disease is presumed by VA to be service-connected for veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange and other herbicides in Vietnam between Jan. 9, 1962, and May 7, 1975. If the VA Regional Office determines that your Hodgkin’s disease is not service-connected, or if the rating of your disability is lower than you think is fair, you have the right to appeal to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals in Washington, D.C.
The effort required to obtain documentary evidence that is necessary to succeed on your claim is a process that has overwhelmed many veterans.
